Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, expressed his disappointment over the Bihar Assembly election results, calling them "truly surprising". He stated that the elections were "not fair from the very beginning", which contributed to the Congress party's poor performance. Despite contesting 61 seats, Congress managed to win only six, while the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured a significant victory with 194 seats.
In a post on X, Gandhi thanked the voters who supported the Mahagathbandhan, saying, "This result in Bihar is truly surprising. We could not achieve victory in an election that was unfair from the very beginning." He emphasized the party's commitment to protecting the Constitution and democracy, stating that Congress and the INDIA alliance would conduct a thorough review of the election results.
Congress MP Jairam Ramesh echoed Gandhi's sentiments, alleging that the election was marred by "vote chori" and accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and the Election Commission of being the "masterminds" behind it. Ramesh reaffirmed Congress's dedication to its campaign for democracy, saying, "The Indian National Congress renews its resolve to continue with even greater strength its campaign to protect the Constitution and save our democracy."
The NDA's victory was marked by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerging as the largest party with 87 seats, followed by Janata Dal (United) with 80 seats. The Mahagathbandhan, which includes Congress and RJD, won only 33 seats, with RJD securing 24 and Congress just six. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also expressed disappointment but assured that the party would continue to fight against forces undermining democracy in India. He thanked the voters who supported Congress and promised a detailed analysis of the election results to understand the reasons behind the outcomes.
