NEWPORT, Ky. (WXIX) - Newport police are investigating vandalism at a longtime small business after someone damaged Christmas lights the owner had strung up for the community.
Jerry Peluso, owner of Peluso’s Market on Monmouth Street, said he discovered the damage around 5 a.m. when he looked out his window and saw his Christmas lights had been pulled down.
“I woke up, I looked outside the window, it was about 5 a.m., I said, ‘Oh no,’ so I got dressed, grabbed the ladder and took down all the lights that were destroyed,” Peluso said.
Six years of holiday tradition
For the past six years, Peluso has hung Christmas lights in front of his store and down the street with his sister.
He had just put up this year’s display days before the vandalism occurred.
