Donald Trump is continuing to dangle the promise of “$2,000 tariff rebate checks” in a recent fundraising email, despite recently acknowledging that the Supreme Court’s tariff decision may prevent him from issuing such payments at all.
The newest email, sent with the subject line “Rebate check?”, Trump again presents the checks as part of a “mandatory poll,” asking supporters whether they would “accept a TARIFF REBATE CHECK signed by Trump” and urging them to respond before a midnight deadline.
Even as he concedes the checks may be legally impossible, Trump uses this poll which could be taken by donors to believe their participation could sway the process or help make this happen. The poll leads to a donation page.
