Deadline has confirmed that a movie based on the Labubu doll plush line is in early works at Sony .

The studio had no comment.

The Culver City studio acquired feature film rights to the Chinese doll. There are no creative attachments at this point in time and no decisions have been made as to whether this would be an animated or live-action film.

The dolls were created by Hong Kong native, European-based designer Kasing Lung in 2015. Early on they were manufactured by How2 Work, however Chinese retailer Pop Mart took over the line and began selling them in 2019.

Labubu was part of Lung’s story series The Monsters , which was inspired by Nordic folklore.
