The third time was the charm for Lambton Central Lancers tennis player Yarko Zelenchuk.

The Grade 12 student won a bronze medal in the high school boys’ singles division on his third trip to the OFSAA championship Wednesday in Toronto.

“I was really happy,” said Zelenchuk, 17. “I was working for it and just had lots of support from coaches, from my sister, from the Muellers (coach Pete, his wife Krista and their son Matt).”

He beat Toronto’s Oscar Taylor 4-1, 4-2 in the consolation final to claim third place and finish with a 5-1 record.

Northern’s Chinmay Damani went 3-2 in the open boys’ singles division.

Zelenchuk was pleased with his performance in half of his matches at the three-day tournament.
