The unemployment rate for the region that includes Grey and Bruce counties fell by half a percentage point last month to become the lowest in the province.

With the decrease, the Stratford-Bruce Peninsula Economic Region unemployment rate sits at 4.3 per cent, while the overall provincial rate also decreased last month, by 0.4 percentage points to sit at 7.9 per cent. Both rates are unadjusted for seasonality.

The region’s overall population 15 and older increased by 300 and the size of the labour force increased by 5,900 people, so the number of people not in the labour force dropped by 5,600, pushing the participation rate up to 60.6 per cent, according to the Four County Labour Market Planning Board.
