Canadiens forward Alex Newhook underwent surgery Friday at the Montreal General Hospital to repair a fractured ankle suffered during Thursday night’s 7-0 loss to the Dallas Stars at the Bell Centre. The operation was performed by Dr. Greg Berry. Article content Article content

Newhook, who had 6-6-12 totals in 17 games while playing on a line with rookies Ivan Demidov and Oliver Kapanen, is expected to miss four months.

Newhook’s injury wasn’t the only bad news the Canadiens delivered on Friday.

Defenceman Kaiden Guhle, who has missed the last 12 games, had surgery Thursday in New York to repair a partially torn adductor muscle and will be out for another eight to 10 weeks. That surgery was performed by Dr. Mark Zoland.
