GREENSBORO, N.C. — When it's 90°, you know you need to water your plants and your lawn . But when you've seen frost on your lawn and the high is 60°, watering is probably not high on your list, but it should be.

"Even in the wintertime, we have to watch our rain gauges, the weather, and the news to know the moisture we're getting. Generally, in the cool season, that is the active time for those cool-season turf grasses. The recommendation is one inch of water per week," said Taylor Jones, NC Cooperative Extension Service, Guilford County.

The drought map shows most of the Triad is listed as abnormally dry. But there are parts that are in moderate drought. Making sure you are watering your lawn, especially at this time, is key.
