Lawyers for Brian Walshe , the man accused of killing and dismembering his wife in early 2023, believed he couldn’t get a fair trial in Norfolk County because of the extensive pre-trial publicity surrounding his case.

But the presiding judge ruled from the bench Friday morning that any risk of prejudice for Walshe could be avoided by a thorough jury selection process.

“Even pervasive adverse publicity does not inevitably lead to an unfair trial,” Judge Diane Freniere read from an order. “Although the media coverage has been extensive, and somewhat graphic due to the nature of the crimes charged, it has also been primarily factual.”

Walshe’s lawyers moved for not just a change of venue, but also for jurors to be brought in from a different county.
