BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Buffalo man has pleaded guilty to beating a chihuahua and causing serious injuries.

Deandre J. Rogers, 30, pleaded guilty in State Supreme Court to one count of Attempted Aggravated Cruelty to Animals, which is a Class A misdemeanor under New York State Agriculture and Markets Law.

Investigators say Rogers intentionally hit a dog while inside a home on Geary Street in the City of Buffalo on May 10.

The dog, a nine-year-old Chihuahua named 'Bella' was taken to a nearby emergency animal hospital in Cheektowaga. Bella suffered serious injuries including skull fractures and other physical injuries. She was later transferred into the custody of the SPCA Serving Erie County for rehab. She has since been adopted by a new owner.
