A 47-year-old man was found dead in the back of a city parks department pickup truck on Randall's Island Friday morning with trauma to his head, police officials said.

A witness discovered the man near Central Road and Bronx Shore Road around 7:21 a.m. and called 911, according to police. The man's identity is being withheld pending family notification.

Police said they are still investigating and that the city medical examiner will determine what caused the man’s death.

Officers had responded to help the man on nine previous occasions when he had fallen down inebriated, according to officials.

The city parks department did not immediately return a request for comment.
