ALLEN PARK — Detroit Lions running backs coach Tashard Choice is serious about his “law of the jungle”: protect the football and protect the quarterback.

Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs struggled mightily in one of those areas during the Week 9 loss at home to the Minnesota Vikings. His pass protection that afternoon was one of several weak spots, and a significant reason Jared Goff rarely had a clean pocket to operate from.

The Vikings had an easy day in the office with Gibbs in pass protection, as he struggled with his blocking assignments in the A-gap and was noticeably blown up by Vikings linebacker Eric Wilson, leading to one of the five sacks Goff took. Disappointed in his technique, Choice gave Gibbs an earful after the game.
