CHICO — Since the age of 12, just entering middle school, Chico High softball player McKena Harvey knew she wanted to play softball at the collegiate level. She spent the next six years grinding, traveling to camps and lessons and games, and the hard work eventually paid off.

Surrounded by her family in her family’s home in Chico, Harvey signed her letter of intent to continue her academic and softball career at Division I San Diego State.

On Sept. 1, the first day that schools could contact athletes with offers, Harvey began getting texts from numerous schools. Despite the texts, no official offers were on the table until later in the day. San Diego State was the last call of the day, but the first official offer on the table.
