BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - The Birmingham Zoo is mourning their miniature donkey.

According to the Zoo, their miniature donkey, Chaucer, lived in the Alabama Wilds and passed away Thursday morning, Nov. 13. The zoo’s team says Chaucer wasn’t feeling well and he slowly became uninterested in food.

The zoo says that the Alabama Wilds team, along with the zoo’s health center did an “amazing job” providing onsite care. The zoo says they also brought in a veterinarian that specializes in equines, however Chaucer continued to not improve.

“He was taken to Coosa Valley Equine Center so he could have 24/7 veterinary care and the specialized care he needed,” wrote the zoo.
