A late-night fire Thursday tore through a duplex in central Vancouver, sending one person to the hospital for smoke inhalation, according to the Vancouver Fire Department.

Crews were dispatched about 11:15 p.m. to 1010 S.E. Morgan Road and arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the front of the building. Firefighters stretched hose lines to attack the fire and cut several holes in the roof to vent heat and smoke, according to an agency news release.

The fire had spread into the attic, and it took crews about 30 minutes to get it under control. About 12 units responded, bringing roughly 30 firefighters to the scene, according to Vancouver Fire.
