India recorded the highest number of tuberculosis (TB) cases globally in 2024, according to the World Health Organisation’s Global Tuberculosis Report 2025, released on Wednesday. The report found that India accounted for 25% of all global TB cases, followed by Indonesia (10%), the Philippines (6.8%), China (6.5%), and Pakistan (6.3%).
Together, eight countries were responsible for 67% of the world’s total TB cases, with Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Bangladesh rounding out the list. The report stated that India’s TB incidence rate stood at 187 cases per one lakh population in 2024, a 21% reduction from 237 per lakh in 2015.
