This past Saturday, Scouting America (formerly Boy Scouts of America) troops in Hamblen County collected more than 14,000 items of food for the less fortunate in the annual “Scouting for Food” event.
As per usual, all food items went to Morristown-Hamblen Central Services’ pantry to help in collection efforts.
“The packs put out the bags on November 1 and we picked up those bags on November 8,” said Scoutmaster Larry Swinson of Scouting America.
When all was counted, 14,436 items of food were collected in this year’s drive, compared to 15,733 items collected during last year’s event.
Swinson’s troop had two-thirds of the collections for this year’s collection. The troop had collected around 10,000 items of food in years past, but collected a respectable 9,517 food items this year.
