WACO, Texas — The Cameron Park Zoo is mourning the loss of two members of its animal kingdom.
Announced on Friday, the South African penguin named Mauri and the North American river otter named Gulliver passed away.
Zoo officials say Mauri was 31 years and eight months old. Mauri hatched on Feb. 13, 1994, at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore and was previously kept at the Fort Worth Zoo before coming to Waco. He was one of the oldest male African penguins in the country.
Gulliver was previously orphaned as a pup and came to Cameron Park Zoo in September 2010. He was estimated to be around 16 years old, according to Zoo officials.
