GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Portions of our region are now under severe to extreme drought conditions, according to recent data from the National Weather Service.
We’ve had less-than-average rainfall this season, with mostly persistent dry air aloft. This has allowed for nice and sunny days, but also enhanced drought.
Areas north of Interstate-10 in Columbia County and Suwannee County are in extreme drought conditions. Regions north of the Marion county line are in moderate to severe.
Our long-term forecast suggests that dry conditions without much rain could continue through the rest of the month. So, drought intensity and coverage are expected to expand.
