The Maryland Department of Human Services announced that the state will begin issuing 100% of federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits according to the regular distribution schedule starting Nov. 18.

The change follows a disruption in federal funding after the federal government shutdown earlier this month. On Nov. 1, the Trump administration halted funding for the SNAP program nationwide, prompting state governments to address the shortfall.

In response, Gov. Wes Moore authorized Maryland to issue at least 50% of November benefits to all SNAP participants to help ensure continued access to food assistance.

As of Nov. 13, Maryland had distributed $46.9 million in SNAP benefits to 217,842 households, according to the Department of Human Services.
