In a setback to the Bharatiya Janata Party in Ulhasnagar, five former corporators of Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation resigned from the party and joined the Shiv Sena led by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The corporators who joined Shinde-led Sena are Jamnu Puraswani, Prakash Makhija, Mahesh Sukhramani, Kishore Vanwari and Meena Sonde.
They were inducted into the party in Dy CM Shinde’s presence. The corporators cited deepening dissatisfaction with state BJP president Ravindra Chavan’s functioning as the primary reason for their exit. According to them, arbitrary decision-making, neglect of long-time party workers and a widening disconnect between the state leadership and the local unit had fuelled unrest within the BJP in Ulhasnagar.
