The East Ridge Police Department has placed a detective on leave after he was charged with domestic violence.
ERPD Assistant Chief Josh Creel says the department learned of a possible assault involving an officer at around 3:00pm on Thursday and asked the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) to investigate the matter.
Later the same evening, the department was told that the HCSO charged Detective Garrett Hawks with one count of aggravated domestic assault.
Asst. Chief Creel says Hawks has been placed on leave without pay as the HCSO continues the investigation.
Hawks is scheduled to appear in court on November 19.
