EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - Leaders of a tree-planting initiative in Evansville are asking for volunteers.

Officials with Evansville’s Department of Urban Forestry, Evansville Forest Alliance, Evansville Tree Advisory Board, Solid Waste District and Evansville Parks & Recreation are working together to plant trees across the city and county.

They say the trees will improve quality of life in the areas by providing shade, cleaning the air and intercepting storm water that would reach the Ohio River through run-off.

Over 300 trees will be planted over two events.

The first will have volunteers plant around 200 trees at the Deaconess Sports Park and Goebel Soccer Complex at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 15.

Leaders say the second event will be at the Evansville State Hospital at 9:00 a.m
