KENT COUNTY, Mich. — The Kent County Prosecutor's Office has recused itself from prosecuting a case surrounding allegations of a local physical therapist assaulting his patient.

Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker told 13 ON YOUR SIDE that he recused himself because he knew the defendant, and said that the Michigan Attorney General's Office will appoint a special prosecutor to handle the case moving forward.

Former Corewell Health physical therapist Mark Scarlato is charged with three counts of criminal sexual conduct in the third degree (force or coercion) and one count of criminal sexual conduct in the fourth degree.
