A Pinal County grand jury has indicted two Coolidge men after what authorities describe as a monthslong investigation into a large-scale cockfighting operation and illegal enterprise, according to the Pinal County Attorney’s Office.

Samuel Felix, 60, and Gerald Vaughn, 61, both of Coolidge, were each indicted on one count of controlling an illegal enterprise and 80 counts of cockfighting, a class five felony according to Arizona statues, the County Attorney’s Office announced Nov. 13.

Vaughn faces three additional counts of animal cruelty, tied to the condition and treatment of other animals found on his property.

“Cockfighting is a brutal and organized criminal activity that fuels animal cruelty and associated illegal enterprises,” Pinal County Attorney Brad Miller said in a statement.
