SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - Over a year after flooding caused it to close, the Riverfront Trail has reopened.
The Iowa Department of Transportation says the trail has reopened as of Friday, Nov. 14, and so has the southbound Interstate 29 lane that goes from Sioux City to near the South Dakota border.
“Repairs were made to the trail to repair flood damage along the trail and southbound I-29 caused by last year’s flooding. Permanent repairs included final stabilization of the interstate foundations and riverbank along the Big Sioux River, repaving the bike trail, and installation of a fence,” stated the Iowa DOT in a press release.
The trail has been closed since the June 2024 flooding. The right lane of southbound I-29 was closed in early August 2024 to allow crews to repair pavement founda
