AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Augusta University hosted its Holiday Maker’s Market on Friday at the Georgia Cyber Innovation and Training Center.

The event featured handmade crafts, jewelry, soaps, food and other items. Most of the products were made in the cyber center’s maker space.

Food bank sees spike in demand as WIC’s fate remains murky

For local organizations like Golden Harvest Food Bank, which say they have not seen these levels of hunger in more than a decade, the shutdown has only increased community need.

“Everything from a pet bakery to one of our students learned what’s called rug tufting in our makers’ space. Now she’s developed a business where she is selling those rugs here at the Holiday Maker’s Market event,” said Lynsey Steinberg, director of innovation.
