STANDISH, Maine — The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office and Gorham police responded around 11:19 a.m. Friday to a report of an active shooter at the Hannaford on Colonial Drive in Standish.
The sheriff's office said the call came from a deactivated phone used only for 911 calls, and the caller claimed the threat was coming from inside the store.
Responding officers determined that no threat existed and that the report was a hoax, according to deputies.
Investigators identified a suspect at the store and took 18-year-old Pather Joyce into custody. Joyce was taken to the Cumberland County Jail and charged with making a false public alarm or report. If convicted, Joyce faces up to a year in prison and a $2,000 fine.
The sheriff's office said swatting calls draw significant law enforcemen
