FORT DRUM, New York (WWNY) - An announcement could come as early as next week about a nuclear reactor on Fort Drum. That’s according to state Assemblyman Scott Gray.

“The easiest way I say this is this is not your grandfather’s nuclear reactor. These are much different looking,” said Gray (R. - 116th District).

It’s part of the Janus program, the Army Corps of Engineers’ effort to improve energy reliability on military installations.

The plan is to install micro modular nuclear reactors at 10 Army posts across the country.

Because Fort Drum is heavily deployed and deploys troops quickly anywhere in the world, it’s a favorite for the technology.
