AVON LAKE, Ohio (WOIO) - The city of Avon Lake plans to purchase the former Erieview Elementary School for $500,000 and convert it into a community center.
The proposal has sparked discussion among residents following a post on social media, questioning why the school was closed last school year and whether it should have remained open.
Mayor Mark Spaetzel says it is a plan that makes sense for the city.
“By being able to keep the building open, it keeps the residents happy, it certainly makes me happy, I’m a long-time Avon Laker, my kids went to school here,” Spaetzel said.
