RED SPRINGS — “Acute Observations,” artist Janette Hopper’s latest exhibition, will be on display in the Red Springs Art Center beginning Sunday.
Hopper has been an avid creator since she was young, saying her earliest memory of her passion dates back to her preschool years.
“I couldn’t pronounce the word ‘murals,’” Hopper said, “so I told my mother I wanted to paint ‘burals.’ In those days, the newspapers were printed on rolls of newsprint, but they couldn’t use the ends. My mother went to the newspaper and got the ends, rolled them out on the floor and let me paint and color on them.”
Hopper’s art followed her throughout her life, eventually leading her to earn a master’s degree in the fine arts from the University of Oregon, her home state at the time.
