GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - An Appleton police officer was struck by a suspected drunk driver in a parking lot on Saturday morning.

Just before 2:45 a.m. on Saturday morning, Appleton police officers responded to a verbal disturbance in a parking lot near S. Walnut Street and W. Lawrence Street.

Officers say they attempted to make contact with a woman in a car, but she accelerated towards another group in the parking lot, and then accelerated towards police officers.

The Appleton Police Department says that one officer couldn’t move out of the way and was hit by the car and knocked to the ground, where the driver then drove over his legs. He was taken to a local hospital by Gold Cross Ambulance, where he was treated and released.
