Every day, people in New Hampshire prove that age is just a number. That includes several local youth athletic coaches.

Bernie Livingston is 82 years old. He's been the track coach at Kennett High School since 1980. A good friend of his has been coaching local kids even longer.

Stan Lyford has been the track coach at Portsmouth High School for more than 50 years.

"So, I was 27 when I started here, (the year) 1974," Lyford said.

In 1974, the track was dirt, but it didn't slow down the team.

The Clippers won a state championship in 1977. Back then, they had many students who lived at the nearby Pease Air Force Base.

Lyford seemed destined for track life. As a kid, he actually built his own crude track facility.
