IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - For months, Escucha Mi Voz has protested President Trump’s immigration crackdown.

Getsy Hernandez has been a part of that fight for the last three months.

“I’m a daughter of immigrants myself, so I have a really deep connection with the community, and I knew that I wanted to work towards fighting for justice for them,” Hernandez said.

She voiced concerns over Iowa’s role in helping with the crackdown.

In August, the state sent National Guard troops to provide administrative assistance to ICE.

The guard was not a part of any law enforcement.

On Friday, Governor Kim Reynolds extended that service through September 2026.

Hernandez said the guard’s role makes it easier for immigrants to be deported.
