LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A man is dead after a domestic shooting in Floyd County, IN early Saturday morning.

Around 5:40 a.m. the Floyd County Sherriff's Office (FCSO) received reports about a domestic altercation at an apartment on Mel Smith Road, just outside of New Albany. According to the FCSO, shots were fired moments before deputies arrived on scene.

Upon arrival, deputies immediately performed first aid to an adult male who had been shot. The incident involved a mother and her two adults sons.

The injured man was transported to a local hospital where he later died from his wounds. The Floyd County Criminal Investigations Division is handling the investigation. Preliminary reports indicate the shooting may have happened out of self-defense.
