POSTVILLE, Iowa —
A northeastern Iowa high school is cancelling the entire season for its girls varsity basketball team.
The Postville Community School District made the decision due to low participation numbers.
The school will continue with only a junior varsity schedule this season.
Officials say this is best for the long-term growth and development of their student athletes.
"We are proud of the girls who are participating this season and appreciate their dedication, commitment, and hard work," a Facebook post reads. "We ask the community to support and encourage these student-athletes throughout the year as they do for all of our students during all of our activities and events in Postville."
