Robert A. “Bob” Erlandson, a retired London correspondent for The Baltimore Sun who also covered Maryland political corruption in the 1970s, died of a stroke Nov. 7 at Sinai Hospital. The Towson resident was 94.

Born in Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey, he was the son of Arthur A. Erlandson, a New York textile executive, and Edythe S. Hodges Erlandson, an artist and homemaker. An Eagle Scout, he was a graduate of the Johns Hopkins University where he was fencing team co-captain and belonged to Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.

While in high school, he was a copy boy at The Associated Press’ main office in Rockefeller Center. He later served aboard the destroyer USS Charles R. Ware as a Navy lieutenant.
