DENVER — Resurrection Christian’s bid for a second 3A volleyball state championship in three years came up short Saturday at the Denver Coliseum.
For the second consecutive season, the No. 2 seed Cougars lost in the semifinals, falling to Patriot League rival and No. 3 seed Eaton in four sets, 21-25, 25-15, 25-23, 25-14.
“We didn’t make the plays we needed to make,” RCS head coach Ben Reeser said. “In the end, Eaton’s a good team and we needed to make those plays. We’re capable of it. Today wasn’t our day.”
The semifinal against the Reds was a rematch of the team’s league contest, which was also won by the Reds in four sets at EHS.
RCS opened the match by taking the first set. The score was tied 20-20 before the Cougars closed it with a 4-0 run to win it 25-21.
