DUNDEE – “A dream of a season.”
That’s how Monroe girls swimming coach Erin Down described the 2025 campaign after the Trojans wrapped up on Saturday, Nov. 15 by winning the Southeastern Michigan Independent Swimming League White championship.
“These kids surpassed expectations repeatedly,” Dowen said. “It’s fun to see hard work pay off in such a big way this season. It’s one I won’t be forgetting.”
Dowen believes this is the first time Monroe has ever captured the SMISL title.
“I don’t know if I’ve ever had a team come into a championship meet so excited and ready to swim fast,” she said.
Abby Dieckmann and Sophia Smith were Monroe’s leaders Saturday, each taking a first and a second in individual events and swimming on two winning relays.
