State BJP president Samik Bhattacharya on Saturday said that the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections would be the last election of chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s political career.

Speaking to reporters in Siliguri, Mr Bhattacharya said: “Even if the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is stopped or the offices of the CBI and ED in Kolkata are shut down, people will still dislodge the Trinamul Congress. Whether the SIR takes place or not, the TMC will not be able to escape the curse of the people this time. Over the past 14 years, people have realised the extent of corruption under TMC rule, especially after multiple scams, including the teachers’ recruitment scam.”
