ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) -Mill Creek’s history is in the spotlight at the Missouri History Museum from now until July 2026.
Mill Creek was a vibrant Black community in St. Louis during segregation. The neighborhood spanned 4,500 acres and was home to 5,000 families.
However, in 1959, it was destroyed for urban renewal.
Now, the exhibit at the Missouri History Museum aims to show the authentic Mill Creek.
“I wanted to tell this story through the people that lived there, through the experiences of the people that lived there. Because when we look at this neighborhood, we don’t see what those city fathers saw. We didn’t see a slum, we saw a vibrant neighborhood,” said Gwen Moore, curator of urban landscape.
Admission for the exhibit is free and will be available to the public until
