A notorious drug trafficker was injured in police firing under Tarabari Police Station in Assam’s Barpeta district in the early hours of Saturday.

The injured accused has been identified as Anowar Hussain (32) of Mailkuchi, Barpeta.

According to police, the incident occurred around 2 am when Hussain allegedly attempted to escape from custody during an operation. Officers said they were forced to open fire after he tried to flee.

Earlier, on November 6, Tarabari Police had seized 11 suspected heroin-filled soap boxes from an Alto vehicle. The occupants of the vehicle, believed to be part of a drug trafficking network, had fled the spot, abandoning the car.
