Shubman Gill is the captain of India’s Test team, but he will not come out to bat for the hosts in their second innings of the ongoing Test against South Africa at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The 26-year-old right-handed batter from Punjab was ruled out of the remainder of the match on Sunday morning due to a neck injury that he suffered on Day 2 of the ongoing red-ball match.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) posted an update on Gill’s fitness ahead of the start of the third day’s play and stated that he is under observation in the hospital and will take no further part in the Test match.
