South Africa beat India by 30 runs on Sunday (November 16) to win the first Test of the ongoing two-match series. In the series opener played at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, the visitors successfully defended the target of 124 runs by dismissing India for just 104 in their second innings. Indian skipper Shubman Gill, who suffered a neck injury on Saturday, November 15, didn’t come out to bat in the second innings.

For the Temba Bavuma-led side, Simon Harmer picked up four wickets, and both the Indian openers were sent back to the dugout by pacer Marco Jansen. Spinner Keshav Maharaj also accounted for the dismissal of two Indian batters, and Washington Sundar, who top-scored for India in the second innings, was sent back to the pavilion by Aiden Markram.
