Assiniboine College officially kicked off its 65th anniversary celebrations earlier this month by unveiling a time capsule sealed in September 1966. The capsule, located at the main entrance of the Victoria Avenue East campus, dates back to the grand opening of the Manitoba Vocational Training Centre of that fall.

Vocational training in Brandon was first mentioned in 1961, and by 1966 the college had moved into its current location on Victoria Avenue East. That year, approximately 500 people attended a cornerstone-laying ceremony led by then Education Minister Dr. George Johnson (1920–1995), representing Premier Duff Roblin.
