Police say they have seized a record number of bladed weapons this year amid heightened community concern over knife crime.

Victoria Police said more than 15,000 knives, machetes and zombie knives had been taken off the streets and destroyed so far in 2025.

The figure surpassed last year's total, with police saying they were on track to seize 50 per cent more knives than they did a decade ago when records started being kept.

"In the past week, Victoria Police has broken our knife seizure record for the second year running, with over 15,000 knives and machetes taken out of the hands of criminals this year," Chief Commissioner Mike Bush said.
