BRAINERD — Brainerd is not resting on past success and it made that statement early in the season.

Brainerd swept its home Paul Bunyan Invite Saturday, Nov. 15, and it wasn't close.

Brainerd outscored second-place Waconia by 91 total points to capture the jazz competition with 436 points and three rank points.

“We’re just overwhelmed,” Brainerd head coach Cindy Clough said. “I think our jazz is probably the best we’ve ever had. Right now, in the leaderboard, we’re No. 1 in the state for jazz. I mean, it’s only been one meet, but our scores are 40 or 50 points higher than Edina, who we finished behind at state last year. We’re higher than Eastview right now. It’s just one meet, though.
