The Boston Red Sox need to do everything in their power to improve their roster over the course of this offseason. One of the biggest storylines in Boston this winter is the free agency sweepstakes for veteran infielder Alex Bregman.

Bregman signed a deal with the Red Sox last offseason, but opted out of it at the end of the year. He's projected to land a big deal this offseason, and the Red Sox can't afford for it to come with a different team.

NBC Sports' Matthew Pouliot recently predicted Bregman would ditch the Red Sox in free agency in favor of a blockbuster six-year, $168 million deal with the New York Mets.

"It’s pretty great for Bregman that a bunch of contenders are currently in flux at third base. Even the Blue Jays could make room for him if Bichette leaves," Pouliot wrote.
