STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A cheese that would kill a vampire is being recalled for a possible listeria contamination.
Face Rock Creamery’s Vampire Slayer Garlic Cheddar block is being pulled from shelves after the Food and Drug Administration issued a recall after a discovery revealed that the cheddar’s “processing area” tested positive for listeria.
According to the FDA’s announcement , listeria is “an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.”
