Since most of us own cars these days, we're all too familiar with the license plates they require. License plates are universal, used throughout the world, and come in a number of sizes, colors and alpha-numeric configurations. And since there are so many variations, they are hugely popular with collectors. The most hardcore belong to the Automobile License Plate Collectors Association, a group now more than 70 years old and with thousands of members around the globe.
